As I figured my car was angry with me after traveling thousands of miles, I got an oil change
before leaving Hagerstown.
Heard rumor of an amazing textbook example of synclines in western Maryland, so took a side
trip before heading towards NJ for a little Geology field trip. I had no idea just how awesome
of a sight it would be. To make way for I-68, a roadcut was made through Sideling Hill resulting
in a vertical rock face displaying a beautiful downward arc of rock layers. I had seen plenty
of models and diagrams of synclines, but it was great to see a snapshot of the inside of a mountain.
The rest of the drive was uneventful as I passed from MD to PA to NJ.
