Spent a few hours at Starbucks in Lynchburg catching up on work before heading
North to Shenandoah. Entered at the Southern terminus of Skyline Drive, with
plans to camp nearly halfway through the park at Big Meadows. Started to hike
along the Sawmill Run Overlook trail, but came across a family of bears and
thought it unwise to proceed any further knowing I was the only one on the trail
at the moment. Hiked to the top of BearFace Mountain and was treated to an
amazing (and windy) 360 degree view of mountains and valleys. Setup camp at Big
Meadows and in a moment of clumsiness fell off my bike before I'd even started
moving. Banged up my elbow, hand, knee, and head. Rode my bike out on Big Meadow
at dusk and saw dozens of deer and even had a bear run across the trail in front
of me! Somehow overnight the panic button on my keys was pressed because I woke
up to a car alarm at midnight. Knowing that I don't have an alarm, I ignored it
for a while until I finally realized the sound was coming from the direction of
my car. I have no idea how long it had been going off, just that the other campers
were rather pissed.
